Tips for Making Your Grass Green

Every homeowner wants to have a full, green lawn because it looks beautiful. That is part of what we all picture when we imagine our ideal home. Achieving a thick, full, green lawn is not always the easiest task though. Things like droughts, cutting your grass too low, and lack of nutrients in the soil can cause the grass to brown or die out. There are some things you can do to help make your lawn green again and keep it that way going forward, they are:

• Aerate Your Lawn: Walking, playing, and parking on your lawn will compact the soil of your lawn over time. That makes it difficult for the oxygen, water, and nutrients that your lawn needs to reach the roots of your grass. Aerating your lawn will break up the soil and allow it to get the air and water it needs.

• Water Your Lawn: Just like you water your garden, you should water your lawn. It should get about an inch of water a day to stay hydrated. Water your lawn in the early morning hours before the sun and heat begin. This gives time for the water to get into the soil before the sun and heat can cause it to evaporate, wasting a lot of the water you used.

• Test Your Soil: Roots need nutrient-rich soil to grow healthy. The average pH level that grasses like is between 5.8-7.2 pH. Get a soil test done to determine your nutrient levels and get the appropriate fertilizer to provide the nutrients your soil needs.

• Eliminate Weeds & Insects: Weeds can crowd up the roots of your lawn, stealing valuable water and nutrients from your grass. Insects can chew on your grass, bring diseases, and be general nuisances. Apply pest control treatment and remove weeds to protect your lawn.

• Use Grass Seed: Grass seed is a simple and good method for fixing brown and barren spots. If your lawn looks bare overall, try overseeding. That means that you spread seed over the entirety of your lawn, including over areas that are already grown. This makes it more likely that your grass will grow and that your lawn will have a uniform look.
